Lunch at Beefbar Hong Kong, finally! Beefbar opened late last year and I finally tried it. We had an hour to kill and debated if we should rush a lunch there or just try it out next time. We decided to just go for a quick lunch and see if it was worth returning for dinner.
I went with the Paris lunch set. Which is 2 courses at HK$290.
I went with the Fassona beef tartare with parmesan as my starter. The beef tartar was really nicely done. It had just enough minced onions that really brought out the flavors of the beef.
The roasted sea bream, eggplant and candied tomatoes as my main course. The sea bream was really nicely cooked – with just the right amount of richness, and oiliness from the fish skin. But what a mistake to order fish as a main course instead…of the beef, at Beefbar? Yeah…I was trying to eat “light.” Lesson learned. Never order anything but beef especially if beef is included in the restaurant name. Duh, Jess.
My 2 set lunch course for $290 felt rather small and expensive. I got hungry around 3 hours later.
Here’s a look at another one of their set lunches: The Sydney, 2 courses for HK$350.
I had a bite of the Amberjack carpaccio, wasabi dressing & coriander cress and wished I ordered the Sydney lunch set. The amberjack was flavorful, fatty and rich.
The main dish was superb. Simply perfect. Australian wagyu hanging tender with caramelized shallots. GOD! THIS WAS BOMB. It’s totally worth the price tag. The wagyu beef was moist, tender and rich. Just try it for yourself. It’ll set your wallet back a bit – but definitely a nice lil’ splurge meal.
