Lunching at 2 Michelin starred Shang Palace at Kowloon Shangri-La

Last week, I met up with Carrie and Rabeea for a lovely girls lunch at 2 Michelin Starred Shang Palace at Kowloon Shangri-La. I had only been once for dinner many years ago and never got the chance to blog about it so I was definitely excited to finally go back 5+ years later for lunch (and blog about it!)

Shang Palace is a beautiful restaurant situated on Lower level 1 of Kowloon Shangri-La. The moment you step into the gigantic restaurant- you are greeted by pleasant waiters and as you gaze upon the grand and beautiful room: you see ornate chinese window frames and grand Chinese paintings hung around the room.

We did a tasting of many delectable dishes including a dim sum course of 1) steamed shrimp dumplings, 2) pan fried rice flour rolls with superior soy sauce, 3) steamed diced scallop with vegetable and bamboo fungus dumplings, 4) steamed minced pork dumplings with shrimp topped with crab roe and 5) crispy spring rolls with shrimp. Wow! That was a lot and the dim sum pieces really did not disappoint. I especially loved the delicate pan fried rice flour rolls and the plump and juicy steamed shrimp dumpling.

Next up was the coddled garoupa fillet in Chiu Chow style soup broth. The broth had a really special and flavorful taste. We found out the soup broth was cooked for an extremely long time with fish stock and lots of pickled cabbage!

Next on the menu was the coddled seasoned vegetable with fresh crab meat in rice broth. We devoured this baby right up.

Next up was the fried rice with minced wagyu beef served in a whole tomato and the presentation was soooo cute!

I really liked this one but was starting to be very full. The fragrant fried rice and sweet tomato sauce went together perfectly.

Last up was the dessert! The double boiled sweetened papaya soup with snow fungus and apricot kernel with a homemade baked flaky egg custard tart. I didn’t try the soup but LOVEEEEEED the flaky egg custard tart. Wow…..one of the best egg tarts I’ve had in HK. Need to include it into my Top 5 Egg Tarts post.

I highly recommend this place for a nice girls lunch, business lunch or dinner out with family or friends. 🙂
