I was born and raised in the Sunshine state (that is what California is known for, right?!) So Cal (Southern California, where I’m from) is known for those amazing beaches (hence the sunshine), Hollywood & Beverly Hills (hence the glamorous movie stars) and MEXICAN FOOD!!!!!!!! (Okay..California is known for much more..but in my head… those seem about that. And, that good ol’ Mexican grub is oh sooooo good!!
Since moving to HK…I have not had too many opportunities to have any Mexican food (to the extent of when and how often I used to inhale Mexican food). But finally the other day, when Steph (awesome PR friend) invited jie (Time Out Food editor) and moi to try out the newly launched ‘healthy living and fresh’ menu at Mr. Taco Truck. We jumped at the chance!!!! Why didn’t I just go earlier!? Thanks Steph!
Super Nachos!!! Tortilla Chips smothered in mozarella cheese, pinto beans, pico de Gallo, Sour Cream & Guacomole!!! It was AMAZING. The nacho’s were crispy, crunchy, and hot. Each chip had the perfect mix and blend of flavors from the juicy tomatoes to the creamy guacomole. Oh man…it was such a great starter!
Spicy Pork (Al Pastor) Quesadilla’s – Glorious. Simply put. Crispy flour tortilla which encased hearty pork pieces along with small bits of sour cream, guacamole, tomatoes….aMMMMMMMazing
Close up view of that glorious Quesadilla!!! Oh my.
Taco Platter- Grilled Fish Taco & Mayan Pork Taco! I sampled the Pork Taco…and it was flavorful, spicy and fresh! I love that they use soft flour tortilla’s!
Horchata- An iced, traditional beverage made of rice, barley and sugar….so refreshing.
Swiss Enchilada w/ Chicken-Flour Tortilla, Chicken, Mozarella Cheese, Sour Cream and Tomato Salsa. It was hard to choose a favorite….but this barely edged out the rest. (Quesadilla, you were a close second) Hot, creamy, and oh so satisfying. The melted cheese oozed all over the soft flour tortilla and the grilled chicken..Oh man. I’m getting hungry thinking back to this.
New to the menu-the succulent Chicken Tinga was a table favorite!! It was spicy, savory, and scrumptious. Paired with a side of Spanish Rice…
A great way to kick off 2013 in meals.
Mexican Corn Bread (Pan de Elote)ย This was awesome! It was moist, sweet, hot and tasted decadent without all any the guilt. I absolutely loved it.
Sweet Corn Tamale That’s the only ingredient! Hot, mashed sweet corn…..:)
Mr. Taco Truck currently has two restaurant locations, in Quarry Bay and Central, (we visited the LKF, Central location). It “uses only fresh produce sourced locally or directly from Mexico with no additives, MSG or preservatives. Mr. Taco Truck is proud to be recommended by the Consulate General of Mexico in Hong Kong.”
Co-founders Vivian and Calvin, along with partner and executive chef Eligio Escobedo Medina (originally from Mexico) brings the authentic Mexican fare to HK! They are currently offering their new healthy menu along with a new Seafood Saturday deal (where you can reserve a seat and the chef will purchase a fresh selection of seafood and prepare a limited made-to-order meal sure to thrill! Starting after Chinese New Year)! Thank you..I will be back! Mmmmm.. Can’t wait. Plus, good bang for your buck!
