Raya- Most Famous Thai Restaurant in Phuket

Raya is known to be one of Phuket’s most famous Thai restaurant. It’s located in the heart of Phuket Town and stays true to it’s roots- serving traditional Phuket style Thai dishes. The restaurant is situated in a beautiful rustic two story colonial house built in the beginning of the 20th century. The menu is in Thai and English (tourist friendly) so don’t worry about ordering issues. It’s definitely more expensive as it’s known to be one of the more authentic and high end restaurants in the city.

We’re greeted with a small starter to share.

I really liked this dish. Stir fried vegetable with crispy mini shrimp and scrambled eggs. There’s a hint of sweetness that went really well with this stir fry. We happily devoured it.

One of their signature dishes- moo hong (หมูฮ้อง) Steamed pork with pepper and garlic (Phuket style) 250-350 THB (that’s what our menu says.) It’s not just steamed though- the pork has been braised for hours until it’s extremely tender and succulent- a perfect mix of sweet (from the palm sugar) and savory (garlic, soy sauce and some special sauce!) Super flavorful and delicious. Some people thought it was too much on the sweet side- but I loved it!

Tom Yum Kung, THB(250-450)…I’m not sure how the restaurant charges you for the dishes…but that’s what it states on the menu (THB250-450???) Anyway back to this dish! The Tom Yum Kung soup had the perfect blend of sourness and heat. The seafood was plump, fresh and juicy!

Stir Fried Crab Meat with Curry Powder THB600. Wow! The crab meat was tender and packed with so much flavor! LOVEEEEEED this. I wanted to lick up the leftover sauce. But I won’t…since I’m a lady.

Deep fried fish with fish sauce, THB650. The menu states it as that…but that description does this dish no justice. A mix of sour, sweet and salty. I loved the fried garlic chips on top. You can not get this type of fish for this price in Hong Kong. The fish meat was succulent and amazingly fresh!

I’m craving this place right now. When you go to Phuket- make sure you check this place out. More TravelwithJess posts coming soon! <3
